This project interweaves built and natural forms to create a place for people to intermingle and learn about new cultures and languages, in the form of a border crossing station located in Detroit, MI. Similar to a trellis, the building's outer shell rises from the ground and supports plants and vines growing up and onto it. The customs hall features a fusion of cultural and dining experiences from both Canada and the U.S., providing a place for both locals and travelers to relax. The shell of the building is formed by fusing perpendicular "threads" of steel, which creates strength through interlocking members. This grid also informs the structural ordering system.
