This design for the Ball State Regenerative Studies Center in Brooklyn, New York, functions as a multidimensional filter of water, light, views, and people. The butterfly roof catches rainwater and directs it to holding tanks on the third floor, where it is purified and used for restrooms and the hydroponic green house. Natural light is controlled by louvers over the windows along with the surrounding trees and landscaping. People are filtered through the front yard area and to the center of the first floor of the building, which is the most public. Then, they are either directed to the backyard area or to the more private spaces of the building, which are both farther from the center of the building or up on the second and third levels.
